Internship Frameworks

Internships form a compulsory component of the LL.B. programme and are an essential part of professional legal training. It ensures that students gain practical exposure throughout the 5-year and 3-year law courses.

As part of the internship requirement, students undertake internships in courts, law firms, corporate legal departments, regulatory authorities and non-governmental organisations.

This exposure enables students to understand the functioning of the legal system and develop skills relevant to litigation, corporate practice and public service.

During their law internships, students engage in legal research, drafting pleadings and opinions, preparing cases and observing court proceedings under academic supervision, in accordance with university regulations.

Objectives
  • To help the students gain first-hand experience of a particular place of work.
  • To assist students in being more receptive to market needs, and in deciding their area of specialisation in the future.
  • To assist students in developing professional skills and a broader understanding of the legal profession and legal processes.
  • To enhance students' learning of a particular area of law.
  • To enable students to participate more effectively in law school classes to bring  real-world experience back to the classroom.
  • To make students aware of career alternatives.
  • To further develop and integrate personal characteristics such as self-awareness problem-solving skills, professional ethics and behaviour.
  • To gain a better understanding of the relation of law to society, economics, psychology and social science to develop new knowledge and skills.
